In the exhibition, refrigerator magnets can be self-made from the €1 jewellery selfies.
The installation "1 Euro Jewellery: Fridge Magnets" in the exhibition "konform_NON_konform" is based on the ongoing series of works "1 Euro Jewellery." Since 2015, I have been regularly uploading selfies on the website 1-euro-jewellery.eu, mostly featuring myself wearing an everyday item and consumer good that cost 1,00 € as jewellery on my body.
"Refrigerator magnets are not particularly valued souvenir gifts; they functionally capture our notes and memories. They are inconspicuous companions of our private living spaces, without artistic aspirations or representative character; similar to the €1 objects in Nadja Buttendorf's portraits. By providing a workspace for the independent use and crafting of her artistic works, the artist opens a humorous door to the democratization of art. This art dethrones itself and is no longer solely an investment or status symbol of an elite. Instead, it is accessible to all."
